For over 15 years, Surthrival has been selling the highest grade colostrum, to the most discerning of clients.Over the years we've been asked a lot of questions about the farms and cows we source from.
We've written this to help you decide if Surthrival colostrum is the right choice for you...
And to arm you with the information you need, the right questions to ask retailers/suppliers, and some insider info on dairy lingo that will help in your quest for the best. We believe in being transparent, and for that reason, have discontinued use of dairy industry language we believe is misleading to the reader (e.g. 6-Hour Colostrum).
Is your colostrum organic or grass-fed?
This is likely the question we answer the most, but before tackling it, we'd like to assure you that ALL of our colostrum is rigorously tested for, and certified to be free of, GMO's, vaccines, antibiotics, pesticides, hormones and a bunch more!
Despite what many companies in the colostrum market are claiming, today's commercial colostrum supply is sourced from USDA certified farms, but not necessarily from exclusively organic or "grass-finished" operations. Because of how little colostrum is produced by the dairy industry (compared to milk), how much is required for the calf (2 liters minimum) to not only survive, but thrive, and how small the organic dairy industry is, this isn't currently economically feasible.
While all of the dairies we source from are (and legally must be) USDA Certified, Surthrival goes a step further. We source exclusively from farms that have agreed to abide by, and participate in, the FARM Standards program. This ensures that these dairies are providing us with the cleanest and healthiest product available, and that the health and longevity of their cows and newborn calves is the top priority. Healthy Cows, Caring Farmers, Successful Farms & Farm Families!

There's a big difference between "grass-fed" and being fed grass!
We've noticed some brands in the colostrum space heavily marketing their products as "grass-fed", without the forward facing certification or explanation to back it up. These are bold claims, and often pretty misleading, so let's set the record straight as best as we can in a few blogs ;)
In case you're wondering...our cows forage the grassy, clover-filled fields too...when it isn't blanketed in snow or frozen solid with ice... Get where we're going here?
Is the colostrum product you're interested in minimally processed and as close to its whole food form as possible? Or....Are you looking at a colostrum product that isn't a full-spectrum, whole colostrum, but rather, an isolated compound extracted from colostrum, for its specific intended & researched purpose (e.g. IGg or PRP's)? This is a very necessary and valuable distinction when shopping for the colostrum that best suits your personal needs.
By choice our powdered colostrum is as minimally processed as possible and as close to the whole food liquid version as we could get our hands on (no added ingredients, no fillers, no preservatives). We believe this synergy of compounds is what makes colostrum so incredible! You'll see a theme across our line and that is that we try to stay as close to nature as possible, whenever possible.
